President’s Report – November 2018

Published: November 1, 2018

Welcome to a new year of our activities – the September Annual General Meeting ‘closed off’ our activities for the past twelve months.

At the Annual General Meeting we welcomed Steven Webb to our Committee. With a keen interest in restoration of old houses I am sure Steven will keep an eye on many of our local historical buildings. Thank you once again to Geoff King for conducting the ballot of nominees for the Committee. Many thanks also to the Committee Members for the past twelve months who have worked hard for our Society, especially the great move from the Mechanics’ Institute building.

Our speaker at the Annual General Meeting was Richard Budzienny who gave us a very interesting and thorough insight into the history of HMAS Castlemaine, docked at Gem Pier in Williamstown. Most of us know her as she is today but her service years were very involved in Australia’s wartime service. If you haven’t visited “Castlemaine” before, or for some time, I urge to do so.

Our November meeting will be on Thursday, 22nd November, at 7.30 in the Williamstown Town Hall former Council Chamber. As we have done over the past couple of years, we ask you to bring an item of interest to tell us about. This could be part of a collection you might have, it could be a pebble from the beach, it could be something from a relative or from former working days.

Please note: there is lift in the Library Foyer to the first floor so there is no excuse that the stairs are too difficult!
