behind the scenes

Are you curious about the work our volunteers do behind the scenes? or the wide variety of items we receive from community donations?

West Gate Neighbourhood Fund - Grant recipient

It's exciting to see the new scanner and equipment in action!

This was purchased through a grant from the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund to digitise our extensive photographic collection and make it accessible online and for future generations of the community.

Thanks West Gate Neighbourhood Fund!

Volunteers update

The team in the workroom has been making steady progress in cataloguing a large number of artifacts that were recently retrieved from storage. They are unpacking, evaluating, cataloguing and re-packing a massive collection that has been acquired over many years and requires attention.

We would love some more volunteers to help review and catalogue our collection. Please let us know if you are available regularly on a Wednesday or any other day and would like to be involved in this activity. Everyone is welcome and we are looking at opening up a second day with the support of more volunteers.

Welcome to our newest workroom volunteers - John and Gerald. Thanks for joining us and sharing your skills and knowledge. We look forward to getting to know you.

New donations & acquisitions

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of eight gently used office chairs in our workroom, generously donated by the property department of National Australia Bank (NAB). These chairs are a much-needed replacement for our current ones, which have seen better days and are sadly worn and broken.

Recent arrivals to our collection are two Honour Boards from the Williamstown Ladies Bowling Club which we have accepted for safe keeping. These once graced the walls of the club in Dennis Reserve. This space has now been converted to additional tennis courts.

An early Comptometer from the Newport Timber Yard which has sadly closed its doors afteer 100+ years serving the community. Thank you Michelle Becroft.

A vintage wallpaper cutting trimming machine has just landed in our collection, originally used by William and Richard Salt in their painting and decorating business in Verdon Street, prior to the Great Fire of 1909. Thanks to the Brown Family.
